Summer drinks: Hot weather can wreak havoc on the digestive system. It can affect gut health wich can lead to serious health issue. Besides, dehydration and heat stroke too are serious implications of the summer season.
To avoid all that, it’s important to have the right drink that quenches the thirst, cools the system and keeps us refreshed besides supplying us with essential vitamins and minerals to keep up the immunity. And while you may crave for frozen treats during merciless hot day, it’s better to avoid colas and ice creams as they do none of the above.
Nothing better than water
Keep in mind that no drink can keep you more hydrated than plain water. Drinking two glasses of water first thing in the morning rehydrates a body parched of liquids while it was asleep.
You can start you day with certain drinks on empty stomach to have a disease-free and healthy summer. Read on to know what are the best summer drinks.
Lemon water and chia seeds
Soak 1 tsp chia in ¼ glass water the previous night. Next morning, squeeze the juice of 1 lemon into the glass of chia and water, top with 150 ml water and consume. Chia seeds are considered cooling agents that nourish Kapha (earth and water elements). They keep the body hydrated, motions smooth and the digestive tract healthy.
Cucumber juice
Cucumber is a coolant, easy on the stomach and has an exceptionally high water content. Keep your body hydrated with cucumber juice first thing in the morning.
Chop 4-5 mint leaves, add a pinch of chat masala or kala namak, grate 1 tsp of raw mango and consume.
Buttermilk
Buttermilk cools the body and keeps it feeling hydrated. It could be seasoned with curry leaves and mint or even crushed ginger. Curd in buttermilk provides the much-needed lactobacilli to maintain the ratio of microflora in the gut. Take ½ cup curd, grate in a very small piece of ginger, a pinch of raw haldi and pepper. Mix and keep in the refrigerator. Consume in the morning.
Another drink that will keep you hydrated through the day is Coconut water or watermelon (blended fresh without water), add 1 tsp chia seeds, Keep in the refrigerator for ½ hour and consume when your heart desires!

Most important, drink at least 8-10 glasses of water (plus minus, based on your height and weight) every single day to avoid dehydration, especially if you are out in the sun for longer than usual sedentary hours.
