IPL 2023: Sunrisers Hyderabad confirmed on Thursday that Washington Sundar, the all-rounder, has been ruled out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 due to a hamstring injury. Throughout the season, Sundar has been a consistent member of the Sunrisers team, but unfortunately, he won’t be able to contribute any further in the campaign. At this point, the franchise has not announced a replacement for the spin-bowling all-rounder.
SRH confirms Sundar’s exit from IPL 2023
Taking to Twitter, SRH wrote, “Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the IPL 2023 due to a hamstring injury. Speedy recovery, Washi.” A while later, they also shared an emotional video of Washington Sundar hugging and greeting everyone from the team and management before his final goodbye of the season.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) acknowledges the significance of the all-rounder in their team, despite not reaching his full potential in the ongoing campaign. In the 16th edition of the league, Washington Sundar has given 60 runs with an average of 15, along with three wickets from seven matches at an average of 48.66 and an economy rate of 8.26, before his unfortunate exclusion. During the IPL 2022 auction, Sundar was signed by the Sunrisers for a notable sum of Rs. 8.25 crore.
SRH deals with a massive blow
Sundar’s exit presents a significant setback to the Sunrisers’ aspirations of reaching the playoffs this season. The team, led by Aiden Markram, finds itself at the bottom of the points table with only two victories in their last five matches. Their on-field performances have been unable to match those of several other franchises. Their upcoming league match is against the Delhi Capitals.
Currently, SRH occupies the ninth position in the standings of the 10-team league, having secured two wins and suffered five losses in the seven matches played thus far. No replacement for Sundar has been announced as of yet.
