Karnataka Election 2023: According to sources, the Congress has contacted actor-politician Kamal Haasan and asked him to campaign for the party in the Karnataka election. In the Tamil Nadu byelection for Erode (East), Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) leader Kamal Haasan had previously endorsed Congress candidate EVKS Elangovan.

The actor-politician has reportedly been contacted once more by the Congress with less than 10 days to the Karnataka election. According to sources, Kamal is debating accepting the offer. There are 2,613 candidates running for the 224 seats up for election on May 10. On May 13, results will be made public.

Chief Electoral Officer’s office data about the total number of candidates
According to the Chief Electoral Officer’s office in Karnataka, out of 2,613 candidates, 2,427 are men, 184 are women, and 2 others. Among the candidates running are 224 from the BJP, 223 from the Congress (who are supporting the Sarvodaya Karnataka Party in Melukote), 4 from the CPI(M), 207 from the JD(S), 8 from the JD(U), 209 from the AAP, 133 from the BSP, and 2 from the NPP. 918 are independents, while 685 are from Registered Unrecognised Political Parties (RUPP).
