Rahul Gandhi today launched a three-pronged attack on the government, a day after the income tax department raided the properties of filmmaker Anurag Kashyap and bollywood actor Taapsee Pannu in an alleged tax evasion case linked with now dissolved Phantom Films.
While the searches are continue on Thursday also, the Congress leader took to his Twitter account and wrote the government is making its departments like Income Tax, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Enforcement Directorate (ED) etc., dance to its tunes while “friendly media” cows down before the government and the government meanwhile takes out its anger on people who are supporting the farmers’ protest.
In three popular Hindi idioms – ‘Ungliyon pe nachana’, ‘Bheegi billi banna’ and ‘Khisiyani billi khamba noche’ — Gandhi said this is what he believes the current situation of the country is.
While the Congress leader neither named the filmmaker nor the actor in his tweet, his use of hashtag ‘Modi raids pro farmers’ was not very subtle.
Union minister Prakash Javadekar, however, rejected allegations that the raids against the actor and filmmaker were linked to their comments, which appear to be critical of BJP.
“This is too much,” he said, adding “Probe agencies undertake investigations based on credible information and the matter later goes to courts as well.”
Before to Rahul Gandhi, many leaders of political outfits including RJD leader Tejaswi Yadav, former Maharashtra CM Ashok Chavan have slammed the raid, saying the BJP is misusing institutions like CBI, ED and ID for personal animosity.
Both Taapsee and Anurag have been vocal supporters of farmer’s agitation who have been protesting since November 26 last year against the three contentious farm laws.
