Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge’s son and MLA Priyank Kharge was served a show cause notice by the Election Commission on Wednesday (May 3) for using derogatory words against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The commission said that prima facie it is a violation of the provisions of the code of conduct.
In view of the Karnataka assembly elections, Priyank Kharge had used the word ‘Nalayak’ for PM Modi in one of his election rally recently. Priyank is a Congress MLA from Chittapur assembly constituency in Karnataka.
This time also he is contesting from the same seat.
ECI notice to BJP MLA as well
Election Commission has also given show cause notice to BJP MLA Basanagouda R Patil (Yatnal) for using objectionable language for Sonia Gandhi. Basanagowda is the star campaigner of BJP. Recently, after Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge used the word ‘poisonous snake’ for PM Modi during one of his election rallies in Karnataka, Basanagowda used the word ‘Vishkanya’ for Sonia Gandhi and allegedly scolded her. Was told the agent of China and Pakistan.
Answer sought by Thursday evening
The Central Election Commission has issued a notice on Priyank Kharge’s ‘worthless’ statement about Prime Minister Narendra Modi, asking why action should not be taken against him? Priyank Kharge has been asked to reply to the Election Commission by 5 pm on Thursday (May 4). BJP had complained against Priyanka in the Election Commission.
At the same time, Basanagowda has also been asked to reply by 5 pm on Thursday (May 4). The Congress had complained to the Election Commission against Basangouda.
What did Priyank Kharge say?
During his election meeting, Priyank Kharge had targeted PM Modi and said, “When you (PM Modi) came to Gulbarga (Kalburgi), what did you tell the people of the Banjara community. ‘Don’t be afraid. A son of Banjara is sitting in Delhi but if a worthless son is sitting in Delhi then how can you run the family.
