The Regional Rapid Transit System network, known as RapidX, is thought to be the way that people would travel to and from the Delhi National Capital Region in the future.
The first RRTS in the nation will be called RAPIDX, and it will operate on the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut route with a gap of 5–10 minutes. The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS’s priority section is nearly ready, and operations could start this month.
Although the air-conditioned trains will initially only have six coaches, the stops have been made to be able to hold nine if required. 450 passengers will be transported on a six-coach train.
One coach will be a high-end coach, and the other will only be available to women. The first phase of the proposal, the entire corridor, won’t be accessible to the public until 2025, but a 17-kilometer priority section from Sahibabad to Duhai will be operating by then. Authorities said that the frequency of the trains has not yet been decided.
On the priority part, commuters can complete their trip in 12 minutes. The journey from Delhi to Meerut will take just 50 minutes instead of three hours once the entire corridor is finished.
“With the construction of priority sections, the RRTS corridor in Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Meerut has been raised from the ground and is clearly visible. Viaducts built at many places and rows of standing pillars give an impression of this changing transport service. There are 25 stations on the corridor from Delhi to Meerut and most of them have taken shape,” said an NCRTC official.
CCTV cameras will monitor the trains and RRTS stations 24/7, seven days a a week, to ensure the security and safety of passengers. Three entry-exit gates are provided on each side to help with traffic flow.
The trains are supplied with 2×2 transverse seats that have been ergonomically designed, ample of standing room, luggage racks, dynamic route maps, an auto control ambient lighting system, a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system, among other facilities.
“Under the Make in India guidelines, 100% of trainsets for RRTS are being manufactured in India at a plant in Savli, Gujarat,” said an official.
Around 8 lakh passengers per day are expected along the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut line, which is also expected to cut 2,50,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emission annually.
