IPL 2023: In today’s match between Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants in Ahmedabad, Rashid Khan delivered an extraordinary performance on the field by executing a remarkable diving catch to dismiss the formidable and well-established batsman, Kyle Mayers. This moment of brilliance played a crucial role in Gujarat Titans’ victory.
Rashid Khan pulls off a stunner
Lucknow made a promising start in their chase of Gujarat’s massive score of 227-2 in the allotted 20 overs. The opening batsmen, Mayers and Quinton de Kock, who made his debut in the 2023 IPL, got off to quick starts. By the end of the powerplay, the left-handed duo had propelled Lucknow to 72-0, surpassing the required run rate. They achieved this by scoring 14 runs off Rashid Khan’s first over and 19 runs off Mohammed Shami’s second over.
Gujarat was in need of a breakthrough, and they managed to secure one with the bowling of Mohit Sharma. However, it was Rashid’s exceptional fielding in the deep that played a significant role. While facing Sharma’s slower delivery, Mayers tried to pull the ball, which had been dug into the pitch. Unfortunately for the West Indies batsman, he failed to connect properly and ended up top-edging the ball towards an unoccupied area on the leg-side. Positioned at deep fine leg, Rashid swiftly sprinted in and made a remarkable diving catch, displaying exceptional athleticism and skill.
Virat Kohli expressed his admiration for the catch by taking to his Instagram account and posting a story on it, stating, “One of the best catches I’ve ever seen. Brilliant.”

From that point onwards, Lucknow faltered and ultimately fell far short of Gujarat’s formidable first innings total as they lost by 56 runs.
