Horrific crime: A labourer living in Delhi was convicted of kidnapping, murder, and physical assault of a 6-year-old child. He would get high on drugs, watch pornographic films and go in search of children to sexually assault and then kill them.
Giving details, police said Ravindra Kumar developed this habit in 2008 when he was only 18. Over the next seven years, until 2015, he killed 30 children.
He was finally convicted in the case on May 9. Police arrested Ravindra Kumar from the outer Delhi area in 2015. The court will sentence Ravindra within the next two weeks. The police have demanded maximum punishment.
Came to Delhi from Kasganj in UP
Police said, Ravindra Kumar came to Delhi from Kasganj in Uttar Pradesh in search of work at the age 18. His father worked as a plumber, while his mother worked at people’s homes as domestic help.
A few days after coming to Delhi, Ravindra got addicted to drugs and got his hands on a pornographic film on a video cassette. Soon after, he developed a horrific routine.
According to the police, Ravindra Kumar would work as a laborer the whole day and get intoxicated in the evening. He would sleep in his room in a slum between 8 pm and midnight, before waking up and going in search of children.
He would sometimes walk up to 40 kms around construction sites and slums, looking for his prey. He would lure the children with 10-rupee notes and chocolates and take them to some isolated place. His youngest victim was 6-year-old and the oldest was 12.
Delhi police caught Ravindra in 2014 on the charges of kidnapping, murder attempt and physically abusing a 6-year-old child.
Threw a 6-year old girl in septic tank
Police said he threw the child into a septic tank after kidnapping her. While on the case of the 6-year-old missing girl in 2015, police arrested him from near Sukhbir Nagar bus stand in Rohini area. Before catching Ravindra, the police checked the footage from dozens of CCTV cameras, interrogated their informers, and finally arrested Ravindra. He allegedly kidnapped the girl, physically abused her, slit her throat, and threw her in a septic tank.
During interrogation, the police also rescued a minor boy from Delhi’s Begumpur area. Ravindra had sodomised him.
His first victim was a girl who he kidnapped from Delhi’s Karla area, raped and murdered in 2008. As police failed to nab him, he became brazen.
Police said he killed his victims so he couldn’t be identified. Also, he would never repeat the crime in the same place twice.
