WhatsApp: On Thursday, Meta-owned WhatsApp announced that it had taken decisive action against the growing problem of international scam calls in India after the government acknowledged the problem and indicated it would notify the platform. The messaging platform claimed to have greatly reduced such incidences by stepping up its artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) capabilities. India is the company’s largest market, with over 487 million users of WhatsApp, according to a Statista research.
Minister of Electronics and IT to Notify WhatsApp Over Spam Calls from Unknown International Numbers
Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Minister of State for Electronics and IT, stated earlier today that WhatsApp will receive a notification from the IT Ministry over the problem of spam calls from unknown international numbers. He emphasised that social media platforms are in charge of guaranteeing user safety and confidence. According to WhatsApp, international fraud calls are a fresh tactic used by criminals. They tempt people to call or text back by leaving a missed call, only for them to be duped. We continue to actively weed out bad actors from our platform in addition to providing many safety tools within WhatsApp including Block and Report. We also continuously enhance user safety education and awareness. However, dishonest people come up with inventive ways to con users, as the firm representative pointed out.

Indian WhatsApp Users Report Surge in International Spam Calls
The number of international spam calls that Indian WhatsApp users have been receiving in recent days has baffled millions of users and put many at risk of financial loss. Indians have no choice but to share their agony on Twitter as a result of the overseas spam calls that have been flooding WhatsApp, the most of which are from Southeast Asian and African nations. The country codes of Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Ethiopia, among others, were displayed in the spam calls. The majority of these calls began with a country code, such as +251 (Ethiopia), +62 (Indonesia), +254 (Kenya), +84 (Vietnam), and others.
