Opposition Jodo: With just one year to go for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Opposition seems to have united. Just a day after meeting Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar will be meeting Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and former Congress MP Rahul Gandhi in Delhi today. The Bihar chief minister has been forging Opposition Unity ahead of the Assembly Polls.
Nitish Kumar meets Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal
Nitish Kumar, on Sunday, met Kejriwal at the latter’s residence. He is reportedly building a working relationship between the Delhi CM and the Congress in an attempt to unify the Opposition ahead of the general election scheduled to be held next year.
After meeting the Bihar CM, the AAP convenor told reporters that Nitish Kumar has given him “full support” amid the Centre’s ordinance and they will fight it together.
Nitish Kumar slammed the Centre’s move, questioning how they can snatch power from an elected government.
“The Supreme Court has given the Delhi government the right to work, how can you take it away? This is astonishing. We are with them (AAP) and will hold more meetings. We are trying to unite as many opposition parties as possible and run a nationwide campaign regarding this,” he said, adding that the rule of law must be followed and there should be harmony among people. “There is an attempt to create discord among the people, which is wrong,” he added.
Nitish Kumar to meet Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi
The Bihar CM will be meeting Malliakrjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi today. They are likely to discuss the dates for the Opposition meeting. If reports are to be believed, the meeting will be held in the first week of June.
Meanwhile, Nitish Kumar is also expected to meet the West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on May 23.
