There has been a major discussion between India’s National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval and US Defense Minister Lloyd Austin regarding the defense cooperation of the two countries. Under this, America is eager to become a major defense partner of India. In the defense sector, the US has expressed its desire for technical cooperation, technology sharing and working together with India from water to land and sky. Ajit Doval and Lloyd Austin on Monday discussed cooperation in specific niche technologies in the maritime, military and aerospace domains to boost capabilities. Greater transfer of technology from the US to India, co-production, building indigenous capabilities between the two countries in line with India’s Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives were also discussed. Another point of discussion between the two leaders was to ensure that countries in various regions such as the Middle East, South Asia and Southeast Asia and the Indo-Pacific retain the freedom to act in line with their national priorities and are not forced to make poor choices . During the meeting, Doval and Austin focused on providing India and the US with reliable sources of supply, flexible supply chains and greater industry-to-industry partnerships. Also decided to adopt a strategic approach to global challenges.
America will make a roadmap with India in the defense sector
The US Defense Secretary, who is in New Delhi on a two-day visit, also held wide-ranging talks with his Indian counterpart Rajnath Singh. At the media briefing, Austin said that India and the US have decided to set an ambitious roadmap for defence-industrial cooperation. He also described the India-US global strategic partnership as a “cornerstone” of a free and open Indo-Pacific. “Our partnership is growing rapidly and we look forward to expanding defense industrial cooperation,” Austin said. US Defense Secretary arrived in New Delhi on Sunday ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s state visit to Washington.
