YouTube: Google-owned YouTube just made earning money on its platform easier. Creators with fewer subscribers can join the YouTube partnership programme.
Under the new rules, a video creator must have at least 500 valid subscribers and at least three valid public posts in the last 90 days. Furthermore, the creator must have a minimum of 3,000 public watch hours in the last year. Alternatively, they should have three million public shorts views in the previous year. ‘
The new YouTube monetization programme has other benefits as well, such as Super Stickers, Super Chat and Super Thanks. Creators will also be able to promote their own merchandise through YouTube Shopping and access various other subscription tools.
It is noteworthy that the new programme is currently available in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Taiwan and South Korea. It will be introduced in other markets over a period.
Shopping pilot being expanded
Techcrunch says the Google-owned company is expanding its shopping affiliate pilot in the U.S. and introducing it to more creators. According to reports, content creators with more than 20,000 subscribers and who are already in the YouTube Partnership Programme (YPP) can tag products in Shorts and videos, thereby earning a commission.

New monetization tools
YouTube has been facing significant competition from TikTok and Meta lately. In response to this challenge, YT is trying to introduce new monetization tools for its content creators.
In February 2023, the video streaming company started sharing revenues on Shorts with its creator community. YouTube Shorts has generated more than 50 billion views, per an earning call in the last quarter of 2022.
According to Techcrunch, last October, Meta reported 140 billion views across Instagram and Facebook.
YouTube has also launched Creator Music to enable its creators to earn money in exchange for the use of their music in videos, says Techcrunch.
