Social media influencer Andrew Tate has been charged in Romania with rape, human trafficking and forming an organised crime group aimed at sexually exploiting women. Along with him, his brother and two other associates have also been indicted.
Andrew Tate indicted on rape, human trafficking charge
Andrew Tate, his brother Tristan and two female associates have been put under house arrest after they were indicted in abuses committed against seven women. The charges include human trafficking, sexual assault, and exploitation. While Attempt has been charged with raping one of the victims, his brother has been charged with instigating others to violence. The Tate brothers have denied the allegations.
However, the trial will not start immediately. Following Romanian law, the case will first get sent to the court’s preliminary chamber where a judge will inspect the case fled for 60 days. A spokesperson for Andrew Tate, speaking on behalf of the brothers and the two associates, said: “We embrace the opportunity it presents to demonstrate their innocence.”
Unfolding Tate brothers’ dirty game
The prosecutors said that the Tate brothers lured victims on the pretext of relationship or marriage. His assets have been seized, including properties, cars, and more than $300m (£235m) in cryptocurrency. Along with this, there are also separate charges against Tate which are still under investigation and could possibly lead to a separate indictment, including money laundering and trafficking of minors.
Who is Andrew Tate?
Andrew Tate is a former kickboxer who is also known for his appearance in the reality tv show Big Brother in 2016. A participant, Tate was kicked out of the show after a video of him hitting a woman went viral. He later got popularity for his insensitive remarks towards women and rape culture. He was banned from Twitter after his ‘women should bear some responsibilities for sexual assault’ remark. His account has since been reinstated.
