Punjab News: Amid soaring temperatures and eight-hour electricity requirement for agricultural activities, the State of Punjab has exceeded 15000 MW power demand for first time in history. On Thursday, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has met the all time record demand of 15,151 MW. The power demand in this cycle has exceeded 14,207 MW requirement in paddy season by a margin of 6.6%.
Meeting the requirement
According to an official the record power demand on Thursday was met without any power cut. To meet the requirement Punjab dew 8,826 MW from the Northern Grid while 6,205 MW were generated from state’s own unit. On Thursday, All seven state-owned thermal plants were operational along with additional private sector thermal plants . During the hours of peak demand three of four Ranjit Sagar units were also running to meet the required power.

Rising Power demands
The demand for power has been steadily increasing over the past 2 days and PSPCL has efficiently provided for the growing need. On Wednesday, the power demand in the state had reached 14,962 MW. PSPCL has a supply of 3,331 lakh units and additional 214 lakh have been procured in light of high power requirement. An additional 100 MW generated from Solar Panels remained unaccounted for Thursday, according to sources. The fourth phase of paddy sowing kicked off on 21 June leading power demand to cross 14,500 MW.
