Russia-Ukraine War: On Tuesday, Belarus welcomed Wagner leader Yevgeny Prigozhin into exile following his abandoned mutiny and negotiations with Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko. Alexander Lukashenko announced that “Yes, indeed, he’s in Belarus today.” Prigozhin flew via his Private jet into Belarussian territory.
Meanwhile President Putin extended thanks to Russian troops for their brave resistance against the rebels. In a show of authority Putin credited Russian troops for repelling the possibility of a civil war.
‘You de facto stopped civil war,’ Putin told troops from the Defense Ministry, National Guard, FSB security service and interior ministry in Kremlin.
Prigozhin claims Gallantry
The leader of the private Russian militia released a video in which he claimed that his troops were hailed as heroes by civilians. News footage of Wagner troops being cheered by civilians are being circulated. Whereas Putin insisted that Russian people and military did not support action of ordinary Wagner fighters.
Wagner troops were disbanded and their arms were handed over to Russian authorities, Supporters of Putin maintain that his regime has not been weakened by Wagner’s rebellion and there’s no alternative to his authority.
Kremlin remains in dissray
As per defense ministry, the handover of heavy military equipment from Wagner to Russian authorities is under process. A meeting has revealed that Russia bore all costs of Wagner operations despite its status as a private militia. It is also revealed that since 2014 $1 Billion have been spent on salaries of Wagner soldiers alone.
The spiraling of conflict shows major questions mark over Kremlin’s ability to contain the affects of rebel sentiment. The spilling of conflict from Ukraine to Russian soil is contrary to what Kremlin wanted from the conflict.
Meanwhile Lukashenko has said that the experienced Wagner fighters could help the Belarusian military with their tactics and weapons.
