Russia-Ukraine War: On Saturday, , Donetsk Governor Pavlo Kyrylenko reported 3 deaths shelling along the southern and eastern borders by Russia. The shelling also left 17 people injured in the frontline eastern part of Donetsk.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez was in Kyiv reaffirming Madrid’s and European Union’s support in Ukraine in difficult circumstances. He attended a session of Parliament in Kyiv and received several standing ovations for his address. Sanchez said “I am here to express the firm determination of the European (Union) and Europe against the illegal and unjustified Russian aggression to Ukraine.”
Weapons shipment and Counteroffensive frontlines
After his address in Parliament he announced shipment of weapons and aid to Ukraine in a press conference. Spain will deliver 4 Leopard tanks and armored personnel carriers with 55 million Euros to assist reconstruction efforts. Spain will also provide a portable field hospital for the front lines.
Fierce clashes between Russian and Ukrainian fighters is ensuing in Donetsk. Russia has mobilised troops and is looking to advance in 3 cities of Bakhmut, Lyman and Marinka. These cities are frontline hotspot of fighting between the two sides.
F-16s and Peace terms
Regarding peace talks with Russia Sanchez said that “only Ukraine can set the terms and times for peace negotiations. Other countries and regions are proposing peace plans. Their involvement is much appreciated, but, at the same time, we can’t accept them entirely.
He also stated that Russia is the aggressor and it cannot be rewarded for breaking regulations. He made approval of Zelensky’s plan of no peace talks until Russia is made to fully withdraw from sovereign territories of Ukraine.
Zelensky expressed his disappointment with lack of clarity regarding training of Ukrainian fighters pilots in F-16s. “I think that some partners are delaying this process, why they do this I have no idea,” he stated.
He also reaffirmed his claim that Russia will use Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant to cause a catastrophe as Ukraine advances its front. He said Russia is technically ready to provoke a local explosion at the station that could cause an emission of dangerous substances in the air. We are clearly communicating, we discussed the need with our partners so everyone understands why Russia is doing this.”
