Jack Ma: Chinese billionaire and co-founder of Alibaba Group, Jack Ma, sparked a stir among the observers by undertaking a sudden trip to Pakistan. As per Express Tribune, a daily English-language newspaper based in Pakistan Jack Ma avoided enagement with government officials and the media and resided at a private location. Jack Ma landed in Lahore on June 29 nad stayed for 23 hours in Pakistan. The Former Chairman of the Board of Investment (BOI), Muhammad Azfar Ahsan confirmed Ma’s visit.
How Jack Ma’s visit went about?
Jack Ma arrived in Pakistan in a chartered flight from Hong Kong’s business aviation sector. He flew via Nepal and was accompanied by a delegation of 7 businessmen including 5 Chinese nationals, 1 Danish and 1 US citizen. The purpose of visit has been kept confidential till now and it is being speculated that it might yield positive fruits for Pakistan. As there were no confirmed dialogue or meeting of Jack Ma everything remains under the scanner for interpretation and postulation.
Speculation around business opportunities growing
It is being hypothesized that Jack Ma visit was aimed at finding business and investment opportunities in the country. Pakistan which is reeling through unprecedented economic hardships could very well use fragments of investments in order to rebuild itself. There are speculations around Jack Ma visiting trade centers and conducting meetings with prominent businessmen but there has been no official confirmation regarding these developments. Even the Embassy of China in Paksitan was not detailed about specifics of Ma’s visit.
Muhammad Azfar Ahsan later clarified in a tweet that the reasons for Ma’s visit were entirely personal.
