Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has pulled out of IPL for a while to support his family in COVID crisis.
The news comes as India struggles with a continous spike in COVID cases. Earlier today Australia leg-spinner and fast bowler Adam Zampa and Kane Richardson went back Australia citing stress of bio-bubble and rising COVID surge in India.
“I just thought I should try and get on the front foot and get home before I got locked out of the country,” the seamer told Australian radio station SEN.
“I would be taking a break from this years IPL from tomorrow. My family and extended family are putting up a fight against #COVID19 and I want to support them during these tough times. I expect to return to play if things go in the right direction. Thank you @DelhiCapitals Folded handsFolded hands,” tweeted Ashwin.
India reported more than 3 lakh and 52 thousand new cases of COVID-19 and more than 2,800 deaths which highest one day number in the entire world.
