The salaries of sanitation workers in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) were credited on July 1. The amount was transferred for the month of June, Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi said on Tuesday. While also taking potshots at the opposition, she said that this did not happen under BJP’s regime.
Shelly Oberoi slams BJP
Shelly Oberoi criticized the opposition over the alleged late payment of dues. She said that the BJP never paid workers on time.
“In the Delhi Municipal Corporation, there are over 30,500 sanitation workers, of which 16,000 are daily wage workers…they received their June salaries on July 1st, the previous government was unable to do so; their salaries would either arrive on the 20th or be delayed until the 28th,” Oberoi said.
Rs 229 crore utilised for sanitation employees
The Delhi mayor shared that Rs 229 crore was utilised to pay all the MCD workers. She said that this was possible courtesy of the recent increase in revenue of the civic body. Henceforth, the salaries will be paid in time, she said.
“It has been 6 months since we took over the MCD, and we are already delivering on promises… pensions have also been paid to all retired officials until the end of May,” said MCD leader of the house.
The Delhi mayor further added that the workers who were not paid will soon receive their salaries.
