Ind Vs WI 2023: It is truly a new era for the Indian T20 squad as they start their tour against West Indies on July 12. BCCI had already announced the Test and ODI squad and all eyes were on the T20 Squad.
It was predicted that many new guys would get the chance in the upcoming T20 series. And the reports were not wrong as at least 6 big names were dropped from the usual T20 starting XI of India. While there were still some shockers that left the fans confused.
There were many talking points from the squad announcement. The major one was that players like Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rinku Singh were ignored. After Ruturaj’s inclusion in ODI and test squad, everyone thought he would be in the T20 squad as well. But that was not the case.
Even Rinku Singh‘s heroics in IPL 2023 were not enough to hand him the T20 spot. Jitesh Sharma being dropped was also another point of conversation between the fans. There are many questions raised towards BCCI and the selection committee after the announcement of the squad.
Big Names Dropped
While it was obvious that youngsters would be given a chance in this series, no one expected it to be to this extent. 6 players that were considered regular in the Indian T20 squad and were part of the New Zealand T20 series have been dropped.
Rahul Tripathi, Jitesh Sharma, Deepak Hooda, Prithvi Shaw, Washinton Sundar, and Shivam Mavi were dropped. While senior players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were given rest to manage the workload.
Ind Vs WI 2023: A Young Squad
The squad announcement became the maiden call-up for Yashasvi Jaiswal and Tilak Verma. Both of them earned a T20 call-up after amazing performances in IPL. While Ravi Bishnoi made his return after a long time.
Sanju Samson was also picked alongside Ishan Kishan as wicket keepers. The pace attack will consist of Umran Malik, Avesh Khan, Mukesh Verma, and Arshdeep Singh. Hardik Pandya will lead the team while Surya Kumar Yadav will be the vice-captain.
