Tamim Iqbal: With even less than 90 days left for World Cup 2023, Bangladesh Cricket Team had to face a shocker. The Bangladesh skipper announced his retirement just a day after Bangladesh lost an ODI against Afghanistan.
This not only leaves Bangladesh without a captain but also in a very complex situation so close to the World Cup 2023. The pressure is on Bangladesh Cricket Board now as they need to find a new captain.
Shakib Al Hasan is the prime choice as he is also the T20 captain. But the choice of the all-rounder as captain in ODI World Cup can send bad signals because of his temper. Litton Das, who is the captain of the Bangladesh test team can also be considered for the job.
A Tearful Goodbye
Tamim Iqbal was in tears while announcing his retirement from all forms of cricket. The Bangladesh former captain was emotional and was finding it hard to put his feelings into words. He thanked all the people who stood beside him in all his tough times.
“This is the end for me. I have given my best. I am retiring from international cricket at this moment, I want to thank all my teammates, coaches, BCB officials, my family members, and those who have been with me through my long journey. They kept faith in me.” The Bangladesh Openor stated.
An Illustrious Career
Tamim Iqbal was the centerpiece of the Bangladesh squad for a long time now. It will be hard to see the Bangla Tigest without him. This not only put the Tigers in a pickle to choose their new ODI captain but also an opener in all formats.
Iqbal played 70 tests, 241 ODIs, and 78 T20Is for Bangladesh amassing 15,205 runs for the Tigers. He was also one of the best performers when Bangladesh beat India in ODI World Cup 2007. “The Dasher” has scored 25 centuries in all three formats of cricket.
