Amarnath Yatra 2023: The Amarnath Yatra has been temporarily suspended due to prevalence of bad weather. As per the PTI “The yatra has been suspended and no pilgrim is being allowed to move towards the holy cave shrine this morning.”
Many parts of Jammu and Kashmir received heavy rainfall on Friday leading to closure of both the Baltal and the Pahalgam routes. The pilgrimage is expected to resume once the weather normalizes. This year the yatra commenced on July 1 and will come to an end on August 31.
Around 85000 pilgrims in 6 days
The Amarnath Yatra 2023 has so far seen 84,768 devotes have so far completed the visit to Amarnath cave and had ‘darshan’ of the naturally occurring ice shivling. On Thursday at total of 17,202 pilgrims venerated at the Amarnath cave. Around 7000 pilgrims had left for Baltal and Pahalgam base camps in 247 vehicles on Friday. Jammu officials revealed around 4600 of these pilgrims were stopped by authorities in Chanderkot. On the other hand 2,410 pilgrims travelling to Baltal were let through. Around 1300 visitors were able to visit the holy cave on Friday morning. The total number of people who have paid homage to ‘Baba Barfani’ this year has crossed 85,000.
Amarnath Piligrimage
This year around 3 lakh devotes have registered for yatra via online portal. Last year a total of 3.65 lakhs visitors paid reverence at the holy cave. Located at an altitude of 3,888-metre in south Kashmir Himalayas, the yatra commences from the twin tracks of Pahalgam in Anantnag district and Baltal in Ganderbal district. The Shri Amaranthji Yatra Shrine board is responsible for the management of the annual piligrimage.
