CM Kejriwal: Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, said on Sunday that all schools in the capital would be closed on Monday due to the heavy rainfall. He posted on Twitter, “All schools in Delhi are being cancelled for a day tomorrow due to the severe rains hammering Delhi since previous 2 days and warnings from the Meteorological Department. In the meantime, District Magistrate Nishant Kumar Yadav of Gurugram has ordered businesses to tell their employees to work from home on Monday so that water may be removed from roads as soon as the rain stops. He urged the people of Gurugram to stay inside unless absolutely necessary.
Delhi Schools Closed and ‘Yellow’ Caution Issued as Heavy Rain Continues
“In view of the torrential rains lashing Delhi since last 2 days and warnings from the Meteorological Department, all schools in Delhi are being closed for a day tomorrow,” Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal on Twitter. On Sunday, rain in Delhi and the NCR is predicted to range from moderate to heavy. The India Meteorological Department has previously issued a ‘yellow’ caution for today. Gurgaon had rain on Sunday from 8 a.m. until 71 mm were recorded in the city.
Delhi Records Historic Rainfall of 153 mm in 24 Hours
IMD predicts that moderate rain may fall in some areas of southwest Delhi and Gurgaon over the next two hours, with a temperature between 24 and 30 degrees Celsius. The amount of rain that fell in Delhi over the last 24 hours—153 mm—is the most in a single day in that city’s history. The only time in the previous 41 years that a single day’s precipitation was more than the previous 24 hours was on July 25, 1982, when the city received 169.9 mm of rain.
