Champions League: After the success of Women’s Premier League first season the big three of cricketing world are planning to capitalize on that success. The main objective is to promote Women’s Cricket all over the world.
India, Australia and England are in high level talks to start a women’s Twenty20 Champions League from next year. And according to various reports the discussion about the tournament has been going on for a while.
Representatives of ECB, Australian Cricket Board and BCCI have been in talks with each other since World Test Championship 2023 finals. It will be a huge boost for the Women’s Cricket if the negotiations are successful.
Logical Next Step
All three boards consider this to be the next logical step after the success of WPL, WBBL, and Hundred. The broadcast revenue of the new league will be distributed amongst the three nations.
After the announcement of equal price distribution for Men’s and Women’s World Cup, this is another step in the right direction. The WPL success was a huge benchmark for this league as the rights for that league was sold to Viacom 18 for $169 million for five years.
This is also very similar to the Men’s Champions League after IPL 2008. That idea failed as it did not generate enough viewers. But this time the environment and conditions are different. And this looks like a sure hit amongst the fans.
Some Other Details
Many details have come out such as teams from different leagues will participate. The venues will be rotated and the tickets reveue will be retained by the hist nations. A spokesperson from Cricket Australia has confirmed the discussions but denied to give any further details about the tournament.
