Lucknow News: Approximately 142 hotels in Lucknow that contribute to pollution may be shut down. In addition to the STP, the UP Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) has issued a notice for failing to take the essential steps to maintain clean air. In addition to swift land use modification, the hotel operators were given one final opportunity to take the necessary action for pollution control measures during the meeting presided over by the DM.
NGT Mandates Pollution Prevention Measures for Hotels
According to Dr. UC Shukla, a regional officer for the UPPCB, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has mandated the required pollution prevention measures for hotels. In accordance with this directive, a survey was also carried out. 177 hotels out of the 333 that were registered under the Sarai Act were deemed useful. There have been 156 closed hotels. These premises are now used for different commercial purposes. Only 35 of the 177 hotels fit this description, and they all use STP, generators, and canopies to reduce pollution. The remaining 142 hotels are without arrangements. The NGT has mandated that all of these be pollution-free.
DM Advises Hotel Owners on Overcoming Pollution Control Challenges
The DM was made aware of the problem. Hotel owners were informed that construction similar to STP could not be done in small hotels, especially in the structures near Charbagh. Here, there is an option to send sewage through a sewer line built by a municipal corporation or local development agency (LDA) to the central STP. But in order to do this, permission is required. Land use is the main barrier in this situation. The majority of hotels operate in violation of the designated land use. In such a circumstance, the DM has advised all hotel operators to collectively petition for a change of land use in LDA, UPCIDA, District Panchayat, etc. and finish the proceedings through the use of a technical consultant.
NGT’s Stringent Measures Against Hotel Pollution and Land Use Challenges
NGT is stringent about stopping the rise of hotel pollution, according to UPPCB officials. The Central Ground Water Authority, UPPCB, and district administration received harsh directives from the NGT during the video conferencing session on June 21. In addition to hotels, the NGT ruling also applies to wedding venues, resorts, and guesthouses. Finding a solution to the land use issue is the focus of NGT.
