Chandrayaan-3 has completed orbitting around the earth and is currently travelling towards the moon, news agency PTI reported citing Indian Space Research Organisatio (ISRO) sources. Following a successful perigee-firing at ISTRAC (ISRO Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network), the Indian space agency successfully placed the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft into the translunar orbit on Tuesday.
Chandrayaan-3 completes its orbits around the earth
According to the national space agency, “Chandrayaan-3 has completed its orbits around the earth and is heading towards the moon.” The’moon’ is the spacecraft’s next destination, ISRO said, adding, a Lunar-Orbit Insertion (LOI) is anticipated on August 5.
“A successful perigee-firing performed at ISTRAC (ISRO Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network). ISRO has injected the spacecraft into the translunar orbit,” it said. “Next stop: the moon. As it arrives at the moon, the Lunar-Orbit Insertion (LOI) is planned for August 5, 2023,” it added.
Chandrayaan-3 now travelling towards moon
According to an ISRO official the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft left the earth’s orbit after the trans-lunar injection (TLI) and is now travelling towards the direction of the Moon. ISRO is looking forward to a smooth landing of the lander on the lunar surface on August 23.
Chandrayaan-3 is a follow-up mission to Chandrayaan-2, which aims to demonstrate end-to-end capability in safe landing and roving on the lunar surface. The spacecraft comprises a lander and rover configuration, which will be carried by a propulsion module till 100 km lunar orbit.
