Kuno National Park: Nine cheetahs have died in India as a result of the translocation from Namibia last year. Tiblisi, also known as Dhatri, a female cheetah, is the most recent victim at Kuno National Park. According to a formal statement, Tiblisi was discovered dead. A post-mortem is being conducted to find the cause of her death.
Appeal in Supreme Court
In view of the repeated cheetah deaths at Kuno National Park, two different letters to the Supreme Court regarding the management of the cheetahs at the wildlife sanctuary have been sent by South African specialists . The specialists believe that the steering group for the cheetah project is ignoring their recommendations, reducing their position to that of simple window dressing.
Causes of cheetahs death
The causes of deaths of these cheetahs can be associated to many factors such as intra-species fights, diseases, accidents before and after release, and injuries sustained during hunting. Heatstroke has been termed another possible reason for the death of these cheetahs. Several controversies have also been doing round with expert arguing that these cheetahs have collars, which have led to skin infections due to constant wetness during the monsoon season.
