MS Dhoni: Dubbed the home of MS Dhoni after Ranchi, Chennai stands as a significant part in the cricketer’s life. Having captained the Chennai Super Kings franchise for the entire duration of the IPL, Dhoni’s leadership has garnered an exceptional 5 championship titles. While Dhoni, affectionately known as ‘Thala’ in Chennai, holds an unmatched sway and status, an incident has swept away the internet after one of his demands was denied.
What did MS Dhoni request?
Reports indicate that MS Dhoni’s expressed wish of involving the Jharkhand state team in the forthcoming Buchi Babu tournament has met with a refusal from the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA). This decision comes amidst Tamil Nadu’s lacklustre performance in the Ranji Trophy, prompting the reinstatement of the local competition after a lull of six years. The tournament features twelve participating teams, segmented into four groups, each comprising three teams. The top-ranking teams from their respective groups will advance to the semifinals. Spread across four days, the matches are set to unfold in Dindigul, Salem, Tirunelveli, and Coimbatore.
In response to robust interest from various state teams, the organizers have opted to amplify the duration and expand the team count from eight to twelve. This change accommodates participants from diverse states, encompassing Tripura, Haryana, and Madhya Pradesh. Notably, former Indian captain MS Dhoni expressed a desire for his home state of Jharkhand to join the lineup. However, owing to spatial constraints, the appeal couldn’t be accommodated. The victorious team of the competition is set to be awarded a substantial prize of 3 lakhs, while the second-place finishers will secure a commendable sum of 2 lakh rupees.
TNCA Secretary clarifies on declining
TNCA secretary RI Palani had stated, “MS Dhoni wanted Jharkhand included, but it was too tight. We couldn’t fit them because we already have 12 teams. Even Services and Chhattisgarh wanted to participate. We have decided to hold the tournament in Coimbatore, Salem, Dindigul, and Tirunelveli on green-tops as it will give players a good preparation since clubs use the event to prepare for the pre-season.”
