Donald Trump: After a two-year investigation into his attempt to reverse the 2020 presidential election loss to Democrat Joe Biden in the state of Georgia, former US President Donald Trump was accused on Monday on accusations of racketeering and a number of election violations. The 77-year-old Republican leader is the subject of four cases this year. The accusations, according to Reuters, were made by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, adding to Trump’s legal difficulties. In addition, 11 counts against Trump and his accomplices, including forgery and racketeering, were brought by the prosecution.

The 18 additional defendants include Rudy Giuliani, John Eastman, and the former chief of staff for Trump’s White House. In a phone call with Georgia’s top election official, Brad Raffensperger, on January 2, 2021, Trump pleaded with Raffensperger to “find” enough votes to overturn the state’s close result, but Raffensperger refused. This case followed. Georgia, which used to be a solid Republican state, is now a politically competitive state that can impact the results of presidential elections. Two weeks before Trump was scheduled to leave office, on January 6, 2021, his supporters invaded the US Capitol in an effort to stop Congress from certifying Biden’s victory. Additionally, according to Reuters, Willis had looked into an alleged plan by the Trump campaign to rig the US election by submitting fictitious electors from the states that make up the Electoral College, which chooses the president and vice president.
Trump’s Denials, Pleas, and Pending Trials in Face of Allegations
The court had earlier on Monday briefly released a document on its website listing a number of felony accusations against the Republican leader, but it swiftly took it down without providing any justification. When asked if there had been any charges brought, Willis’ office stated no and made no more comments. Willis, an elected Democrat, is accused of being politically motivated by Trump, who has denied any misconduct. In three criminal instances already, Trump has entered a not guilty plea. In New York, a state trial involving a hush money payment to a porn star is scheduled to start on March 5, 2024. A Florida trial in the federal classified papers case will start on May 20. Trump has entered a not guilty plea in both cases. A third indictment, for which a trial date has not yet been set, was filed against him by a federal court in Washington accusing him of trying to fraudulently reverse his election loss in 2020. Trump continues to falsely assert that he won the election in November 2020 despite the fact that numerous legal proceedings and government investigations have found no proof to back up his assertion, according to Reuters.
