Government: In regard to the companies that produce electric scooters, the central government has once again adopted a severe stance. The government has explicitly instructed Ola Electric, Ather Energy, TVS Motors, and Hero MotoCorp to pay Rs 278 crore to about 2 lakh consumers in response to complaints over the non-payment of money to customers for off-board charges. Defaulting corporations are receiving letters in this regard, according to a senior government official, and it has been made quite plain that if these payments are not made by the end of November 2023, severe action will be taken against them.
Following the Ministry of Heavy Industries’ report, this action was implemented. This report stated that the OEM companies, who owed a total of Rs 288 crore, had paid only Rs 10 crore as of the 15th of August.
What exactly happened?
While selling the electric scooters, the companies actually collected the cost of the charger separately from the clients rather than having to include it in the pricing. After receiving complaints from customers, the authorities acted swiftly to punish the businesses.
Actually, when selling the electric scooters, the companies had to include the cost of the charger to the price; however, they had already received this cash from the clients separately. Along with doing this, the corporations had also taken the charge customers’ money separately. Customers had complained about this, and the government responded by taking harsh measures against the businesses.
