National Film Awards 2023: In the year 2021, the collaborative efforts of director Vishnuvardhan and producer Karan Johar bore fruit in the form of a film that deeply resonated with audiences. “Shershaah,” the powerful narrative based on the life of Captain Vikram Batra (played by Sidharth Malhotra), a brave martyr of the Kargil War, left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who experienced it. Today, however, is a day of celebration as this exceptional cinematic creation receives the recognition it rightfully deserves: the Special Jury award at the esteemed 69th National Film Awards.
A joyful expression
Vishal Batra brother of Captain Vikram Batra expressed his happiness about this achievement during an candid interview with News18. He said, “It is a matter of great pride and happiness because this award is not only for the movie but it is also for the valor and the courage of every soldier who gave their lives in the Kargil war.”
Vishal Batra also emphasized the sacrifice of 527 soldiers at Kargil War as unrecognized heroes, affirming their significant role. He stated that, “While Vikram has become a legend, it is the sacrifice of these 527 soldiers that deserves recognition. ‘Shershaah’ also effectively portrays the life of a soldier, dedicated to safeguarding the sovereignty of our nation. I am overwhelmed with the immense love and admiration from the entire country, expressing their heartfelt appreciation for the movie.”
Vishal Batra extended his heartfelt congratulations to the entire “Shershaah” team. He praised the film’s co-producer Shabbir Boxwala, writer Sandeep Shrivastava, and expressed admiration for the way Karan Johar, Kiara Advani, and Sidharth Malhotra seamlessly portrayed the essence of Vikram Batra’s life on the silver screen. He concluded by asserting, “Vikram was a true hero, and we always aimed for an actor who could authentically reflect the standards Vikram set through his military career. Sidharth’s portrayal was simply fantastic.”
