The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), led by Arvind Kejriwal, declared on Saturday that it would participate in the upcoming Assembly elections in Bihar. This decision might further splinter the Opposition’s unity in the lead-up to the 2024 Lok Sabha election. Sandeep Pathak, the general secretary of the AAP, met in the nation’s capital with the members of the AAP’s Bihar Unit.
In Bihar, there will be assembly elections in 2025.
Sandeep Pathak placed a strong emphasis on growing the party in Bihar at the meeting. Ajesh Yadav, the Bihar in-charge and a Delhi-based AAP MLA, also attended the meeting.
“It is the misfortune of Bihar that, due to dirty politics, the state has not been able to move forward where it should have been. The AAP will contest elections in Bihar. But, to contest elections, it is necessary to have a strong organisation,” Pathak said.
Party will decided when to contest election
In order to grow their party, Pathak also asked the party leaders in Bihar to form building committees in every village.
“We will contest elections in Bihar, but the party will decide when to contest. We cannot contest elections directly in Bihar, for that we have to strengthen the organisation first. We will have to form our own committee in every village. We have to work hard from now itself to strengthen and expand the organisation. Once the organisation becomes strong, then we will contest elections and win too,” Pathak added.
Pathak emphasised the need for a solid organisation when he indicated that AAP would fight the Bihar election with all of its might, just as it did in Gujarat. When discussing his goals, Pathak stated that the party would first penetrate the state through local body elections.
Pathak criticised the BJP, saying that throughout the previous nine years, PM Modi has only delivered speeches in reaction to the nation’s current issues.
He remarked of the opposition group, the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), “While opinions might differ, the country comes first.” The choice on coalitions will be made later, he continued, adding that “AAP is a national party and will contest Lok Sabha elections.”
Meanwhile, INDIA, a coalition of 26 opposition parties led by PM Modi’s BJP, has been formed to oppose the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). INDIA includes AAP.
In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the opposition group wants to stop the NDA from securing a third consecutive term as the government at the centre.
