ISL: The tension between the Indian National Team and Indian Clubs is getting more intense day by day. Just a few weeks ago various ISL clubs refused to release players for national duty as it was not obligatory.
And now that Indian team coach Igor Stimac announced the 23-man squad for the King’s Cup, the situation remains the same. Indian team is on a roll right now under Igor and that is why he is focusing on more preparatory camp before a tournament.
With the Asian Games 2023 and the Asian Cup just around the corner, the national team and players have requested ISL to release the players for extended camps. But the clubs have denied the fact because it does not fall into the FIFA calendar.
Stimac Furious
Ahead of their Kings Cup, the head coach of Indian football organized another training camp and saw something that made him furious. Out of 23 players, only 12 reported to the camp, and the rest were unable to participate.
Stimac stated that he knows players need to be in ISL clubs but everyone needs to get their priority right. India wants to be in the Top 8 of Asia in the next four years and they can’t reach their like this.
If the players do not spend time together, they won’t be able to achieve that target. He further stated that all the other countries are spending 100 times more on Football so India needs to work even harder than them.
Most Difficult Period
Stimac is afraid that the situation might remain the same in the Asian Games 2023 as well. He stated that it is not anyone’s fault that Asian Games got postponed so most of the countries are facing the same problem. But according to him, other countries are finding ways to help the national side.
