Rupal Ogrey’s murder and the subsequent arrest of Vikram Athwal
Rupal Ogrey, who was killed, was from Chhattisgarh and had travelled to Mumbai in April to train with Air India. Less than 12 hours after the body was found on Sunday night in her apartment at the NG Complex on Krishanlal Marwah Marg in Marol, police detained 40-year-old Vikram Athwal, a garbage collection employee for Ogrey’s residential society. Despite the fact that Ogrey’s body was found in a semi-naked state, authorities have not officially established a motive of sexual assault. According to a Times of India story, forensic specialists have stored her visceral samples for additional examination. According to reports, the police squad looking into the murder of the flight attendant zeroed in on Athwal as the suspect based on the recent injuries to his neck and hands and the CCTV footage that showed him leaving the community two hours after the crime wearing something other than his uniform.
The Sequence of Events Leading to Vikram Athwal’s Arrest in the Rupal Ogrey Murder Case
“Athwal said he entered the flat to clean it. He left it around noon but did not step out of the building for two hours. After committing the crime, he washed the bloodstains off his uniform, changed his clothes, left the building around 1:30 p.m., and went directly to his Tunga village home in Powai. He reported to work on Monday when he was nabbed,” the TOI report quoted a Powai police officer as saying. Police searched through the building’s CCTV footage, the visitor log book and all of the people who had visited the society after the incident was reported. According to the TOI article, the CCTV footage showed that on Sunday, Athwal arrived at work wearing his uniform but departed the premises wearing a different set of clothes.
