Punjab News: On Friday, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann presented a slew of sops to provide the local sector the much-needed support. He was joined by his Delhi counterpart Arvind Kejriwal. The incentives include allowing industrial units to operate in residential area for three years, approving industrial building plans within 72 hours, connecting power and water to labour colonies, and completely revamping focal points.
At the Sarkar Sanatkar Milni (Government-industrialists’ meeting) held here, these were among the primary demands made by the industry to the CMCM
Promote growth and draw more investment
In response to the charter of demands put forth by Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora, who spoke on behalf of the industry, Mann reassured business leaders that his administration would make every effort to address all outstanding problems, satisfy all legitimate requests, and create a supportive environment for the industry in order to promote growth and draw more investment to the industrial hub.
“I know focal points and industrial zones are in a dilapidated condition, hampering the development of industries,” he said, while announcing a comprehensive development plan for the complete overhaul of these areas. “A blueprint has been prepared to facilitate them and give a facelift to the focal points and industrial zones,” he said.
Will facilitate labour class: Mann
Mann said “in this way, we will facilitate the labour class and their families to lead a comfortable life,” he said, while terming the access to basic civic amenities as the right of every individual.
Industrialists who want to build new structures would be greatly relieved by the CM’s announcement that construction approvals, particularly those for basement excavation, will be granted through the Invest Punjab portal within 72 hours. He said, “If it is not done within this time, it will be deemed approved.”
Mann offered another three-year exemption to the sector in Ludhiana for relocating from residential zones, satisfying a highly requested need. “We are committed to the growth of the industry and will do whatever is required,” he said.
