During the 2006 India tour of Pakistan, Akhtar faced off against the legendary MS Dhoni in the renowned Faisalabad Test.
Dhoni thrashes Shoaib Akhtar
In a match where bowlers found it challenging to take wickets, Shoaib Akhtar sought to unsettle the Indian batsmen with his lightning-fast beamers and precise yorkers. He even resorted to sledging MS Dhoni. Despite Dhoni’s unwavering focus during his innings, Akhtar, after conceding three boundaries in his spell during the 2nd Test in Faisalabad, intentionally delivered a dangerous beamer to him, displaying no mercy.
Nevertheless, Dhoni adopted an aggressive strategy, responding with a barrage of boundaries. Despite Akhtar’s rapid deliveries, he struggled to match Dhoni’s pace, causing his accuracy to falter. As Dhoni continued to dominate, the Pakistani bowlers began to feel the pressure, and Dhoni ultimately notched his maiden Test century.

Teaming up with former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan, who contributed 90 runs, Dhoni unleashed a blistering onslaught, amassing a rapid 148 off just 153 balls. Thanks to his exceptional batting display, India reached a total of 603 in their first innings during the Faisalabad Test. Notably, Dhoni’s match-saving century against Pakistan marked his first century in Test cricket.
