Canada on a collision course with India? Trudeau says ‘Not Looking to Provoke or Escalate ‘

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has emphasized that he is not seeking to provoke or escalate tensions with India but wants New Delhi to take the killing of Sikh separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar seriously. Here are key points on this issue:

1. Justin Trudeau previously alleged the involvement of “agents of the Indian government” in the killing of Sikh separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in June, drawing international attention and concern.
2. Trudeau clarified that Canada is not looking to provoke or escalate the situation and wishes to work with the Indian government to address the matter transparently.
3. In a speech to the House of Commons, Trudeau mentioned that Canadian security agencies have been actively investigating potential links between Indian government agents and the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
4. India firmly rejected Trudeau’s claims, dismissing them as absurd and motivated. The Indian foreign ministry emphasized that similar allegations had been made in the past and were rejected.
5. The tension between Canada and India escalated as both countries expelled a senior diplomat from the other side. Canada’s diplomat was asked to leave India within five days.
