Noida News: The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has given the future Noida International Airport (NIA) in Jewar an advantage by giving it its own special international three-letter code, “DXN.”
Streamlining Aviation Communication
The code is used on ticket reservations, boarding permits, luggage tag designators, and other documents as a location identifier specific to each airport. It is governed by IATA Resolution 763 (location code regulations) and resembles a pincode. It will act as a uniform method of communication for all parties involved in aviation, ensuring efficient operations and fewer mistakes.
Symbolic Connectivity to Delhi and Noida-Greater Noida
Christoph Schnellmann, CEO of NIA, explained the code’s significance by stating that it provides a clear knowledge of Delhi-Noida and its connectivity to the world through this airport. “The D in DXN signifies Delhi, which is the national capital, and N stands for Noida, which shows our presence in the Western UP area. X, we think, signifies connectivity within India and the world,” he said on Wednesday. “This is one of our major milestones as an airport operator, the identity of our airport. The code is for infinity, it’s not going to change (as long as the airport remains). We are fortunate to get a code that is symbolic, at least in the world of aviation, of the connectivity to Delhi and Noida-Greater Noida. To get this, we had the support of different airlines such as IndiGo and Air India and the Uttar Pradesh government,” said Kiran Jain, Chief Operating Officer, NIA.
Key Players in Noida International Airport Development
The Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), a subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG, is building the NIA, which will cover 1,334 hectares. For 40 years, it will plan, construct, and run the airport. The implementing organisation on behalf of the UP government is the Noida International Airport Ltd. (NIAL). The Yamuna Highway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA), Noida Authority, Greater Noida Authority, and the state government all own it.
Key Details about Noida International Airport’s First Phase
The airport’s first phase is expected to open for business by the end of 2024. It will have a single terminal with a 12 million passenger annual capacity and a 3.9-kilometer North Runway. Schnellmann provided updates on the airport’s development, noting that more than 7,000 people are already stationed there and that more than 14 million safe work hours had been performed. The developer’s data indicates that there are 450 pieces of heavy and small gear deployed at the site. Over 50,000 tonnes of concrete, 13,000 tonnes of gravel, and 25,000 tonnes of steel have already been purchased in terms of material.
Noida International Airport’s CEO Highlights Progress in Development
“We have completed the arrival level across the head house and the departure level; other work on the passenger terminal building is ongoing. The Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower has been completed up to 30 metres, two more levels are left until we will reach the roof to place the cabin on top of it. Work on the sub-grade layer and final layering is ongoing on the runway. Not only us, but many of our partners are working to provide different services to the airport,” said the CEO.
Key Partners Supporting Noida International Airport’s Development
He continued by mentioning a number of important airport partners, including Siemens, Honeywell, Amadeus, ThyssenKrupp, Naffco, Global Specialist, Smiths Detection, and SITA, who will offer services like IT and telecommunication, lifts, chemical detectors, energy management, fire protection systems, and software for the international travel and tourism industry, among others.
Noida International Airport’s Additional Key Partners and Freight Hub Details
Additional chosen significant airport partners include IndianOil Skytanking and Roseate Hotels and Resorts. Similar to that, AISATS will plan, construct, and run an airport-based multi-modal freight hub. A logistics park, warehousing area, integrated cargo terminal, cool port, courier terminal, and trucking centre will be included in the hub. According to the CEO, the logistics centre will span 80 acres. It would have an initial capacity of more than 2 lakh tonnes per year, which will increase to 20 lakh tonnes per year. It will have the necessary infrastructure to support air-to-road, air-to-road, and road-to-road movements.
