Rajasthan News: Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot made it clear that a caste survey, not a census, will begin now. He claimed there is no issue with continuing the survey once a decision has been made before the model code of conduct takes effect.
Speaking to the reporters in of a gathering, Gehlot said, “Census can only be conducted by the Centre. We are only doing a survey of the families in which their economic condition will also come to the fore. I think a huge decision has been taken. It is our party’s commitment, we will take it forward.”
Order issued:
Late Saturday night, just a few hours after chief minister Ashok Gehlot announced the exercise, the Rajasthan Social Justice and Empowerment Department issued orders directing the Planning Department to carry out a caste survey throughout the state.
He asserted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should state when the Centre will put major programmes like the Chiranjeevi Health Insurance and the Urban Employment Guarantee into effect in the nation.
Gehlot made his comments a few days after Modi said at a public gathering in Chittorgarh that if the BJP won the state of Rajasthan, it will not halt the welfare schemes that the Congress had begun there.
Additionally, the chief minister reaffirmed that his government will carry out a caste survey in Rajasthan along the lines of the one that was just completed in Bihar.
Gehlot also singled out the state’s BJP leaders, claiming they lacked justification for opposing his government’s policies.
