ICC ODI World Cup 2023: It looks like the injury to Hardik Pandya is more severe than anyone thought it would be. While the all-rounder was supposed to return for the South Africa clash, it looks like they will have to delay that.
The incident happened during the India vs Bangladesh clash in the group stage when Pandya tried to stop the ball. He twisted his ankle and had to walk out of the match limping.
The star all-rounder came back in the dugout later but did not bat as India won the match before his turn. While the injury was not looking serious, the latest update from various sources indicates something else.
Worrisome Signs
A BCCI Source stated that “The medical team under Nitin Patel is monitoring him at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. But the injury looks a bit more serious than what was first perceived. It looks like he has suffered a minor ligament tear which usually takes at least two weeks to heal. The NCA will not release him before his injury heals. The medical team has communicated to the team management that they are hopeful of putting him back on the pitch soon. The team doesn’t want to bring in a replacement. It’s ready to wait for Pandya.”
Potential Return In ICC ODI World Cup 2023
The good thing is that India has already secured their place in the Semi-Finals of the tournament. They just need to win 1 more match to make it official and the next 2 matches are on slow pitches.
The match against England is in Ekana, Lucknow and Ravichandran Ashwin will be his perfect replacement. That is why Hardik Pandya has more than enough time to return to the squad completely fit.
