Meerut News: The Namo Bharat Rapid Rail from Delhi to Meerut is now progressing towards Merath, with the NCRTC gearing up to gift Merath a new corridor. There are plans to conduct trials between Duhai and Meerut South (Partapur Tiraha) in December-January, aiming to commence operations in March-April. The focus is on the 24-kilometer second corridor, with construction at an advanced stage.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the first corridor, covering Duhai to Sahibabad, on October 20. The spotlight is now on Meerut as NCRTC aims to complete the second corridor, spanning from Duhai to Meerut South, by March 2024 for operational readiness before elections. Construction from Duhai to Meerut South is nearing completion, with ongoing work on tracks, electrification, and OHE. Since the inauguration, approximately 200,000 passengers have traveled the 17-kilometer corridor daily, with an average of 10,000 passengers during weekends.
Construction Progress: 90%
According to NCRTC officials, Rapid Rail construction between Duhai and Meerut South is 90% complete, with the final touches underway. Track work is 70-75% finished, and electrification and OHE work is at 50-60%. The rapid progress in three phases signals preparations for trials by December-January if everything remains on track.
Total Corridor Length: 82 Kilometers
The Rapid Rail corridor spans 82 kilometers from Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi to Modipuram in Meerut. The first phase, covering 17 kilometers, is operational, and the next 24 kilometers are set for operation by March-April. The remaining 41 kilometers between Delhi and Meerut are targeted for completion by December 2024.
