Google Play Store: Spotify, a music player app on Google Play Store reportedly pays only 4 per cent commission to the Android app store instead of the 15 per cent commission that the search giant charges from all the developers having their apps listed on the Google Play Store. Spotify gets this privilege of not paying the high fee of almost 30 per cent for in-app purchases. Check out why Spotify bypasses the Play Store’s mandatory for all commissions below.
What’s the Reason
As per reports, Spotify pays only a 4 per cent commission to the Google Play Store for in-app purchases instead of mandatory fees of 15 Percent for all other developers. We are not aware of the exact terms of the deal, but reportedly the Music player app developers accepted Search Gaint’s deal to pay a significant upfront amount to reduce the fee by 4 per cent.
Some critics of Google such as Epic Games criticize this deal pointing it out as an unfair practice that gives Spotify an added advantage over its rivals on the Android app store. However, Spotify has always defended its deal with Google arguing that it is important to keep its subscription prices low.
