Madhya Pradesh Police have initiated legal action against 17 individuals for allegedly taking photographs with Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and sharing them on social media during the state assembly polls in the Sironj constituency of Vidisha district. The case was registered following a complaint by the Additional Returning Officer (ARO) Sanjay Chourasia, who asserted that mobile phones and cameras were prohibited at the polling booth, and the act of clicking pictures violated the rules of the Election Commission.
The case, filed under IPC section 188 and section 128 of the Representation of the People Act, raises concerns about the breach of confidentiality and the potential impact on the integrity of the electoral process.
Violation of Election Commission Rules Sparks Legal Action
The complaint highlights the negligent behavior of election officials at the polling station, where voters allegedly took photos while casting their votes on the EVMs and shared them on social media platforms. Vidisha Collector Umashankar Bhargav emphasized the importance of maintaining the confidentiality of the vote and expressed concerns about the implications for future elections. The FIR, registered against the accused, aims to address the violation of election rules and regulations.
