Delhi: The Delhi Motor Vehicle Aggregator and Delivery Service Provider Scheme 2023 has been announced by the Delhi government.
By 2030, electric two-wheeler taxis are intended to replace the current bike taxis. This programme is a component of a bigger endeavour to use public transportation to reach net zero emissions.
Delhi will only have electric bike taxis by 2030
Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai said, “India has set a target to achieve net zero emissions by 2070. This scheme is an initiative by the capital city towards the same.”
All Delhi taxi aggregators are required by the new rules to secure a licence within three months of the notification date. Unless the licence is for an electric vehicle (EV), these licences have a five-year expiration date and annual payments.
In addition, there will be a 50% refund for cars under two years old.
Rai pointed out that this is the first time that phase-wise electrification of bike taxi operators has been included in cab aggregator rules.
The reason behind the step
Since car emissions are a major cause of pollution in Delhi, the move to electrify bike taxis and cabs is seen as a step in the right direction.
The new rules seek to improve public safety and convenience in addition to encouraging electrification. In response to customer concerns, the Delhi government intends to implement regulations on surge pricing.
