Amazing Cars: Several automakers, including Hyundai, Honda, and Tata, surprised the industry in 2023 with new models and intriguing facelifts. However, due to the introduction of the BS6 Phase-2 norms, several models from Honda, Skoda, Nissan, and Mahindra were withdrawn from the Indian market. The carmakers felt that these models were not well-liked enough to justify the significant expense required to modify their engines to meet the new emissions regulations. In this article, we have listed five amazing cars that were discontinued from the Indian automobile market in 2023.
Amazing Cars that Were Discontinued in India in 2023
Maruti Alto 800
The iconic Alto 800 is the first vehicle on the list. For a long time, Maruti and the Indian people were able to get by with an 800-cc engine. However, because of declining sales, Maruti decided it was no longer necessary to update the engine to meet the latest regulations. Thus, in April 2023, it quietly retired the Alto 800 and debuted the Alto K10, a 1.0-litre petrol car.
Hyundai i20 diesel
Hyundai’s 1.2-litre diesel engine was another victim of the BS6 Stage 2 regulations. In February 2023, the i20 Diesel was withdrawn from sale. The Tata Altorz is now the only high-end hatchback with a diesel engine.
Honda Jazz
2009 saw the Honda Jazz’s introduction to the Indian market, and 2015 saw a major generational update. At first, there were two fuel and diesel versions of the Jazz available. The 2020 redesign of the Japanese symbol resulted in the removal of the diesel option due to the implementation of BS6 emissions regulations. Additionally, Honda completely stopped manufacturing it in April 2023 when the BS6 Phase-2 regulations were implemented.
Nissan Kicks
In the Indian market, the Kicks were never very successful. Nissan’s bad reputation in the Indian market hampered the vehicle, despite its competence. Further hurting its resale was the fact that its sales were never as strong as those of its rivals, such as Creta and Seltos. Since there were so few Kicks being sold, Nissan decided not to update the engines, and in April 2023 the model was discontinued.
Honda WR-V
Honda tried its hand at making a sub-4-meter SUV with the WR-V. As time passed, rival manufacturers began to introduce legitimate tall-body SUVs. As a result of its crossover-like appearance, the WR-V felt unsuitable. Honda’s collapse was also caused by its failure to modernise its features and interiors. In April 2023, Honda decided to withdraw the WR-V.
Hyundai Verna diesel
The 1.5-litre diesel engine that was previously included with the Verna has been modified to meet RDE regulations. Given that the diesel engine accounted for the majority of Verna sales, Hyundai’s decision to exclude it from the new model was unexpected. Alternatively, the 1.5-liter turbocharged and 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol engines that come with the new Verna. There aren’t any sedans in the budget segment with diesel engine options right now.
Toyota Innova Crysta Petrol
With the introduction of the Innova HyCross, which runs solely on petrol, Toyota made a significant advancement. To serve Innova’s current client base, it then introduced the Innova Crysta, which has a diesel engine. Nevertheless, it maintained this division by delaying the release of the 2.7-litre petrol Crysta in order to avoid overlapping with the Hycross. The Crysta’s 2.7-litre petrol engine was discontinued.
Renault Kwid 800
The RDE rules forced Renault to phase out the 800cc engine, much like they did with the Alto 800. Renault had the 1.0-liter engine on the market earlier than Maruti. As a result, it kept selling the Kwid’s 1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine while quietly discontinuing the 800cc engine in April.
