Weather Update: According to IMD, on January 9, dense to very dense fog conditions are expected to prevail in some areas of Punjab and in isolated pockets of Haryana and Chandigarh. For the next four days, there will also be dense fog in isolated pockets. In certain areas of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Bihar on August 8 and 9, dense to extremely dense fog conditions are likely to persist for a few hours during the night or morning, and dense fog in isolated pockets for the next 24 hours. On January 9, dense fog conditions are expected to persist for a few hours in isolated areas over the Jammu division; on January 10 and 11, over Himachal Pradesh, north Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand; and on January 12 and 13, over Odisha, West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Tripura.

According to IMD, there is a high likelihood of heavy rainfall in certain areas of Tamil Nadu’s coast. Lightning and thunder are likely to occur in isolated locations over East Rajasthan and West Madhya Pradesh; lightning and wind gusts (40–40 kmph with gusts up to 50 kmph) are likely to occur in isolated locations over Kerala; and lightning and thunderstorms are likely to occur in isolated locations over Tamil Nadu and Coastal Karnataka.
Extremely cold weather is predicted to persist in some areas of Punjab on January 8 and 9, as well as in Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi on January 8, 2024, before clearing up. On January 8–10, there were isolated areas of cold weather in Rajasthan, and on January 8, there were conditions over West Uttar Pradesh.
