In a significant announcement, the Central Government has revealed a crucial development related to Aadhaar cards. Approximately 29 lakh Aadhaar cards have been issued without biometric details, allowing individuals to obtain Aadhaar cards without fingerprint and iris scans. Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, Rajeev Chandrashekhar, shared specific rules and conditions for availing Aadhaar without biometrics. Let’s delve into the details of this noteworthy update.
Who Qualifies for Aadhaar Without Biometrics?
To be eligible for an Aadhaar card without biometrics, individuals must have a valid medical reason. This includes cases where fingerprints are blurred or if the person has no hands. Similarly, those with vision impairments or without eyes can also apply for an Aadhaar card under specific medical conditions.
Special Instructions for Aadhaar Centers
Minister Rajeev Chandrashekhar emphasized that Aadhaar Service Centers have been directed to issue Aadhaar cards to individuals with disabilities affecting fingerprints, eyes, or hands. The government clarified that individuals with blurred fingerprints can obtain an Aadhaar card through an IRIS scan, and those without an IRIS scan can apply through fingerprints.
Application Process for Aadhaar Without Biometrics
The government clarified that individuals unable to provide both fingerprint and iris biometrics can still apply for Aadhaar without these requirements. The application process involves submitting details such as name, gender, address, and date of birth, accompanied by a medical certificate verifying the condition of hands and eyes. Additionally, a photograph illustrating the disability must be submitted for inclusion on the Aadhaar card.
