Delhi News: A stage within Delhi‘s Kalkaji Mandir collapsed during a religious rite on Saturday midnight, leaving one woman dead and seventeen injured. According to the police, the woman was driven by two individuals to the hospital and was declared dead when they arrived. Searches are being conducted to identify the woman.
Medical Response and Hospital Admissions
The injured individuals were admitted to Safdarjung Hospital, AIIMS Trauma Centre, and MAX Hospital. They are presently in stable condition, even those who suffered fractures. The incident occurred on Saturday at midnight during the temple’s “Jagarana” or “Jagrata,” a Hindu ceremony that includes worship for the deity, music, dances, and all-night vigils.
When it was announced that well-known Indian musician and music producer B Praak would be performing at the event, a number of individuals sprang onto the platform. The enormous weight was too much for the stage, and it collapsed.
Scope Expansion by Organizers
The event’s organisers expanded its scope, according to Southeast Delhi DCP Rajesh Deo, who spoke with India Today. The gathering has been held at the Kalkaji Mandir for 26 years. He continued by saying that at around midnight on Saturday, there was a gathering of roughly 1,500–1,600 persons, and no authorization was given to hold the event. Nonetheless, Rajesh Deo pointed out that there were enough police officers stationed on the temple grounds to uphold law and order.
Elevated Arrangements
Deo added that families of the organisers and VIPs had special seating arrangements made for them on an elevated platform that was constructed inside the temple close to the main stage. The platform was constructed with an iron frame and wood. Some devotees who were seated beneath the platform sustained injuries after the tragedy. The event organisers have been charged under Sections 337, 304A, and 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
B Praak’s Heartfelt Statement
B Praak expressed his sorrow at the event in a statement. He called the incident “extremely unfortunate” and said it was the “first time something like this” had happened in front of him in a video posted on his official Instagram profile. In the video message, B Praak added, “I’m deeply saddened by it.”
