Rajasthan News: The Rajasthan Excise and Temperance Policy for the fiscal year 2024-25, unveiled on Thursday, assures no hike in excise duty or licence fees. Dealers seeking licence renewals, however, will encounter a 10% increase in the guarantee amount. Nilesh Mewara, President of the Rajasthan Liquor Welfare Association, clarified that this adjustment won’t impact end customer prices.
The policy maintains the existing number of liquor stores, with 7,665 outlets under the composite category. Additionally, provisions for individual godowns for each liquor shop have been introduced, and a concession on import fees for extra neutral alcohol (ENA) is granted for country liquor production.
Renewal Conditions and Auctions
Under the new policy, shopkeepers have the option to renew their licences for the upcoming year, subject to a 10% increment in the annual guaranteed amount. Remaining shops will be allocated through online auctions using e-bids. Despite the renewal condition, the policy aims to uphold stability in pricing for consumers while introducing measures to enhance operational aspects of liquor shops.
Concession for Country Liquor Production
In a move to support country liquor production, the policy grants an import fee concession for up to three lakh bulk litres of extra neutral alcohol (ENA). This concession is expected to facilitate the production processes for country liquor, providing a boost to the relevant industry within the state.
