UP News: In the midst of the upcoming three-day ‘Urs’ ceremony at the iconic Taj Mahal, the Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha has filed a petition in Agra’s IV Additional Civil Judge’s court. The petition seeks a prohibitory injunction to halt the ‘Urs’ celebration and challenges the provision of free entry for the event. The court, located in Room No. 4 on the civil court premises, has set March 4 as the next hearing date in this legal dispute.
Legal Proceedings and Summons
The court, under IV Additional Civil Judge, has scheduled the next hearing for March 4. The defendant will be served summons through an ameen (court messenger), as mentioned by Anil Kumar Tewari, the counsel for the petitioner.
Challenging Taj Mahal Urs and Free Entry
The Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha’s petition questions the continuation of the ‘Urs’ tradition at the Taj Mahal and opposes the provision of free entry for the event. The court has issued a notice to the celebration committee responsible for organizing the ‘Urs.’
Background and Right Wing Opposition
This year’s Urs, scheduled for February 6, marks the 369th celebration of Emperor Shah Jahan, the builder of the Taj Mahal in 1653. Right-wing organizations, including the Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha, persistently claim that the Taj Mahal is a Shiva Temple named ‘Tejo Mahalaya.’ This stance has led to objections against events like the ‘Urs’ at the Taj Mahal. The matter has been previously raised in various courts, and there is an ongoing suit in the Agra court regarding this issue. Despite these claims, the high court of Allahabad has rejected similar petitions from right-wing groups in recent times.
